Name: Nathan "Cable" Summers Door: TDM assignment of Dom Canon: X-Men Cinematic Universe Canon Point: post-Deadpool 2 Age: 40s-50s Appearance: here History: https://xmenmovies.fandom.com/wiki/Cable Personality: Cable is a man who's been through some serious shit. He's fought in at least one war, he's got a techno-organic virus that destroyed a decent portion of his body and more recently he's come home to find his wife and daughter burned to death. These things have shaped a lot of who he is and how he views the world. He's capable of some serious and unflinching brutality, going so far as to be willing to kill an innocent teenager for the heinous crimes he'll commit in the future, because one of those crimes would eventually be the murder of Cable's wife and child. He doesn't shy away from hurting people who get in his way, either, whether they're guards that he mows down in his pursuit, his several genuine attempts to kill Deadpool or even his willingness to torture Weasel when he needs to find Deadpool and his allies. He feels that he has an important mission and he's nearly unwavering in his pursuit. This comes with an almost-chilling sense of focus, as he feels that the ends will justify the means. He never does these things to be sadistic or cruel. He isn't trying to be a bad person. His motivation in all the things he does is that doing these bad things will culminate in a much more important good thing being accomplished. He is in many ways a stereotypical soldier. He is stoic and moves with a tense sense of certainty, always pressing forward towards his goals. He's very strategically-minded and adaptable, able to adjust his plans as things change around him and even to retreat when he has to. He knows when to carry forward with brute force and when it's worth it to stop and explain his actions, even knowing what explanations will resonate with others. He is a very aloof person. The loss of his wife and child likely made this aspect of him much more severe, as the pain of that is very fresh, but it's likely that this is an aspect of him that was always there to some degree given his history and demeanor. There is a part of him that clearly blames himself for what happened to them, because they were killed by a criminal that he'd been tracking. Their deaths were painful and traumatic and he found their bodies in his home. This is something that sticks with him so strongly that he travels with his dead daughter's teddy bear, which he found in the wreckage of their home caked in ash and blood. The bear is a tangible reminder to him not only of why his mission is so important but also a reminder of his own guilt. He can be very tactless, not because he isn't capable of tact, but simply because tact isn't something he values. He has moments where he shows that he's capable of having social skills and being capable of empathy and understanding, so it's a true measure of him dismissing the need for tact more than being unaware or incapable. He has no problem threatening people or taking out his anger on them verbally with colorful language. He's not worried about how this affects anyone's feelings. If anything, he likes the power it seems to give him in the moment, though he also uses it to almost tease Deadpool, seeming to take almost a sense of glee at one point as they needle each other verbally in a cab. Even with all of his walls, he isn't too bogged down with a sense of hubris to admit when he needs help. This is shown when he blatantly asks Wade and his allies for help. He's not happy about having to ask for it, but he does it and he's very forthcoming with the details of the situation that brought him to that place, even when it exposes some of his own self-perceived flaws to them. For him, the mission is much more valuable than his own pride. He speaks of his late wife with a rare measure of emotional vulnerability, mentioning that she'd always found humor in her pain and that it's something he can't do himself. It's a quality he uses to compare her to Wade, even as he finds the quality in Wade to be an annoying hindrance at times. It's a quality he admires in some ways, as it's an emotional defense mechanism that he lacks and for all his stoicism, he shows in his moments of vulnerability that he's deeply scarred by the loss of his family and any other deaths he may have allowed by failing to stop Russell. There are still times when he shows amusement at some of Wade's jokes, too. Though he is very focused, he's not entirely humorless. He's capable of being selfless, but it isn't always at the forefront of his actions. His mission to travel back in time is fueled by something that is at least a little selfish, even as he's trying to save lives. He wants to kill Russell as a teenager because he will become the man who kills Cable's family in the future. It will save other lives as well, but it's clear that saving his own family is a big part of what fuels Cable's actions and it makes his mission incredibly personal. It's also clear that there's some level of revenge on his mind. Even with those selfish thoughts partially fueling him, he gives Wade a chance to talk the kid down from his first kill. It's a small chance--30 seconds--but he gives it and it's that plea for it that shows Cable who Wade is. Wade's determination to save the kid from the dark path that makes him a murderer shows Cable something so worth saving that he gives up his chance to go back to the future and his family to save both Wade and the kid instead. He claims he does it to stay in the past and try to help steer the planet towards a better future, but it's clear that part of it is about who Wade is and how Cable sees his value in the world. He gives up seeing his family again for something that he views as more important in the grand scheme of things, which is incredibly selfless considering the fact that thoughts of his family fueled him through much of his solitary mission and though he knows that they are now alive in the future now, he will very likely never see them again. The one thing that breaks through a lot of his discipline and training is a sense of anger and aggression. There are moments when it comes out in full view, especially when Wade tries to get in his way during his many attempts to kill Russell. Wade catches him off guard a few times and it brings out a sense of aggression and rage that may not entirely break his focus, but certainly pulls some of it. It's clear that some of that comes from his mission being so personal that even with all his training, he can't quite move past how fresh the pain is from losing his family. Aside from a few moments of vulnerability, Cable doesn't purposefully express a lot of emotion, but the anger is there without his permission. Powers and Abilities: -Telekinesis - He can move objects with his mind, borrowing from the comics, one thing that very much limits this power is that he has a techno-organic virus that would take over his entire body if he wasn't holding it back with his telekinesis. Though this is not explicitly stated in the film, he is shown both to have the ability and the virus and it seems supported by how little he seems to use the ability. -Cyborg aspects - He is shown briefly to be able to connect to the network in the prison where he finds Wade and Russell with either his mind or more likely the techno-organic parts of himself. This is also an ability he has in the comics, though I am happy to limit him to only being able to connect with the in-game network in the capacities that all characters can with their devices, anyway. He also seems to have some analytical and information storage abilities that allowed him to rebuild his gun from the future out of parts of guns from the past. He is able to project an informational display as he does it and it instructs him on what to do. The implication seems to be that he can load information on and off of himself like one would save things on an external hard drive. -Metal portions of his body - His left arm and portions of his torso and neck have been taken by the techno-organic virus that he has. These portions of his body seem to be stronger and more durable than a normal human body. -Weapons and fighting expertise - He's shown to be an extraordinary fighter with a number of weapons and styles with fast reflexes and an ability to take hits without flinching.
